Energy content
Non-domestic renewable heat incentive, Guidance Volume 2: Ongoing obligations and payments, published by Ofgem in March 2021, states: ‘Energy content’, means the amount of energy contained within a fuel or feedstock, specifically, the regulations refer to the substance’s “gross calorific value (GCV) within the meaning of British Standard BS 7420:1991”. ” For example, we may need to know the number of megajoules (MJ) of energy in a given quantity (e.g. a tonne) of fuel, or the percentage of the energy content of a fuel (or combination of fuels) that is from a fossil or biomass source. NB. For those self-reporting against the sustainability requirements, there is a different definition of ‘energy content’ for the purpose of greenhouse gas calculations. The sustainability self-reporting guidance provides further information.’
